Philosopher bertrand russell explains how language derived it"s meaning using logic. Jl austin looked at actual acts people performed in ordinary life by means of language. For long the assumption of philosophers that the buisness is a statement can only be to describe some state of affairs or to state some fact which it must do either truly or falsely. Grammarians have regularly pointed out that not all sentences are statements. They could be questions and exclamations , sentences expressing command or wishes or concessions. In recent times the defintion of statement is scrutinized with some explanations : A statement need to be verifiable and this led to the view that many statements are only what mag be called pseudo statements.
