Document Summary
Validity: is the measure that you"re using valid/appropriate to answer your research question, we need to be sure that what we are actually measuring accurately reflects the question we have/ info. we"re interested in knowing. Can be calculated for any analytical unit: site, unit, layer, level: absolute frequency = the basic count of the bones, ex. if you have 1500 rabbit bones the absolute frequency is 1500 (cid:224) this number cannot be compared with other taxa or sites because the total sample sizes are different, relative frequency = the number of bones of a taxa/ the total number of bones at the site, ex. if you have 1500 rabbit bones and a sample of 3000 bones then. Decisions influenced by a number of variables: food value, ease of transport, raw material utility of bone and sinew, number of people in the hunting party, perception of the immediate and future value of each part.
