Document Summary

For the exam: shes not gunna include the lecture that was cancelled before reading week. Ant211: intrasexual competition: how males and females compete for mates. Advantage that certain individuals have over other individuals of the same sex. Solely in respect to reproduction specifically looking at same sex competition in the effort towards competition competition= differential success similar to ns: competition, variation, competition is in the ultimate goal of successful reproduction. Differs: specifically focuses on same sex competition- directed towards reproduction. Outmaneuver or drive away other members of the same sex. Tends to be more confrontational & intense and overt than females. Male reproduction is usually limited by other males (competition)- without competition they can physiologically copulate with many females this is why males have more risk taking behaviour. Model to explain earlier male mortality: success of male reproductive effort, dependent on the reproductive effort of male competitors, males often put more effort into a copulatory opportunity to overcome their competitors.
