Most archaeologists in 60s , they were affiliated with unis and colleges. 1978 fagan- he relized most jobs were in academia, some could do a living by having contracts from the state, federal gov, private companies. 1985 fagan- most archeologists work for national park services, federal agencies. In 70s and 80s- parks canada did huge number of publications on sites in canada. In 1990 textbook- more jobs outside of universities. 2010- 90% of jobs are in crm- private consulting firms. Laws that are designed to protect archaeological sites. What should be in reports, what should be rules to follow to excavate sites, etc. Lqws tell us who can do archaeology and the regulations. Where you excavate and how will depend on the goals and employers. Can be doing archaeology in research framework: different from crm companies. Past can inform us about the present- processual archaeology.
