AST101H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Nanometre, Micrometer, Cosmic Ray
Document Summary
Meteorites = material of the solar system that hits earth and is recovered. (lands on earth) Moon rocks brought back by the astronauts. Cosmic rays = very high energy subatomic particles from the sun and outside the solar system(other stars, etc: all of these gives us very limited information though. Light = almost all information about space, and only connection with distant objects. White light doesn"t give us a lot of information though. Sorting light by colours (from deep violet to deep red) -> spectrum of light: first step in getting information from light. Isaac newton was the first to do this. A wave has a length, after which it repeats. A wave has a height or amplitude above and below the central line. A wave has a frequency = number of waves passing a fixed location each second = speed of the wave divided by wavelength.
