Energy • Energy comes in several different forms • 1) energy of motion = kinetic energy • Example: falling object, orbiting star • Example: heat=motion of molecules • Water molecules boil at 100 c • Water molecules freeze at 0 c • Everything freezes =-273 c = absolute zero • Also called 0 K(elvin) Energy • 2) energy of radiation Energy • Stored energy = “potential” energy • Example: suns radiation => tree grow, energy of radiation, until the wood is burned to produce heat again • Example: Sun’s radiation stored in plants that turn into oil •
