BIO153H5 Lecture 2: Chapter 25.1 –25.3 & 25.6 bio153
Document Summary
Building blocks of life were made in early atmosphere: urey -miller"s (1953) primordial soup. Experiments recreated early earth conditions able to make monomers: made all 20 amino acids, sugars, lipids, pyrimidines, purines. Experiment showed how life may have been evolved, they discovered that by manipulating the soup with electricity they would be able to get amino acids to form. The issue with this experiment we really didn"t have a good sense of what the earth was really like. Prior to predacious period it would have been totally different from now (100 million years ago). Oxygen concentration levels were higher during that time than today. In vertebrates the atmospheric concentration of size, we don"t see many larger species on earth today the reason there not because there"s not enough oxygen. The way they breath is different from humans, they need more oxygen to grow.
