Document Summary

Clearance 1 termination (elimination) of drug action. Total body clearance - amount of body water (liters) that can be entirely cleared of a drug per unit time (hours, minutes). It is an imaginary amount of water that can entirely be cleared of drug. There is no liter entirely cleared of drug. (used in dosing). For calculation purposes, we assume that all liters can be cleared of drug. Removal of unwanted molecules in the blood stream or the body endogenous or exogenous. Body treats drug as a foreign molecule and works to remove it as soon as it gets in. The body can remove virtually all foreign molecules. Basic pattern of tbc: curvilinear y-axis is blood concentration and x-axis is time. The drug concentration does not drop off in a straight line, but is curvilinear. When the concentration is high, the organs work very fast. If drug concentrations begin to drop, the organs of elimination begin to work more slowly.
