Document Summary

This experiment will examine the relationship between urbanization and animal abundance. There will be a greater abundance of animal species (vertebrate and invertebrate) in the natural habitat (grassland) than in the disturbed habitat. To test the abundance of animal species across the different ecological habitats, data was collected at the utm campus using the following procedures. September and october, in groups of four, a grassland and disturbed habitat were surveyed and the abundance of vertebrate and invertebrate species was measured. Each group member reported how many vertebrate species they counted for their section within the 15-minute period, they were reported in quantity and species type (ex. The invertebrate species were measured using two methods. Firstly, the total number of flying insects were counted within a 5m radius of the 50m measuring tape (the same tape laid out for the vertebrates) during a 15-minute period.
