Document Summary

We can use a basic model to describe metapopulation dynamics. Source sink model - include patches of higher and lower quality. When we talk about patches, we include the idea that animals are able to move between patches. Live in forested areas but are able to fly over other habitats - other patches. We can look at the structure and quality of area between areas which make up patches. 100 in indonesia in the 3 subpopulations. We could look at habitat patches as conservation areas. What do we need to do to make these conservation areas occupied. Create corridors of protected area - fence or patrol so reduce the probability of extinction by taking away one reason of population decrease. Look at life history characteristics and carrying capacity of the area - possibly change a characteristic of the habitat in order to decrease extinction. Monitor subpopulation and take samples of them - check for diseases and arrange for treatments.
