Document Summary

Inhalation: oxygen from outside environment to inside environment. Partial pressure of oxygen is a bit higher and it moves into the alveolar space. Blood that is reaching the alveolus is low in oxygen and a bit higher in carbon dioxide. The tiny capillary has a lower partial pressure so that the air can diffuse across the membrane. We are loading the blood that is leaving the alveoli to go back to the heart: oxygenated blood is brought to the heart. When hemoglobin is fully loaded: all the hemoglobin is filled with oxygen. Some of this oxygen starts to change and as it changes, more of it is easier to offload. Once the process is started, it is easier to release the oxygen from the hemoglobin. The body uses the oxygen as energy. We are using oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide: cellular process. The light blue line is less saturated with oxygen.
