Document Summary

Lymphatic system consists of: lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymphoid tissues and organs, lymphocytes. Lymph: interstitial fluid that has entered a lymphatic vessel. Lymphatic vessels: begin at peripheral tissues and end at connections to veins. Primary sites where lymphocytes are formed or mature (i. e. red bone marrow, thymus gland. Secondary sites were lymphocytes are activated and cloned (i. e. lymph nodes, tonsils, malt, appendix, spleen. Lymphocytes: primary cells of lymphatic system that allow body to resist or overcome infection and disease by responding to invading pathogens, abnormal body cells, or foreign proteins. *capillary pressure declines from arterial to venous end so filtration and reabsorption rates change as blood passes along capillary length. Chp: push water and solutes out of capillaries into interstitial fluid. Bcop: pull water and solutes into capillaries from interstitial fluid. *movement of water out of capillaries through peripheral tissue and back to bloodstream is how lymphatic system serves its function.
