BIO210Y5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 31: Detrusor Urinae Muscle, Beta Blocker, Neural Pathway
Document Summary
Q-1 taylor is experiencing an appetite increase and weight loss. On the other hand the body is unable to utilize and absorb the nutrients from food and so the body is metabolizing the fat and sugar resources to fulfill the requirement. Taylor could have high metabolism due to the hyperthyroidism and so her body is metabolizing the sugar and fat reserves which is resulting in losing weight. This results in appetite increases as the hypothalamus is stimulating hunger due to the decreases sugar (glucose) levels in the blood. So she feels hungry all the time and thus has an appetite increase. Q-2 taylor is urinating more often than usual and is rarely thirsty. She was previously given beta blockers to treat her high blood pressure. Beta receptors allow the muscle to relax but by taking the beta blockers to treat her high bp, the beta receptors are blocked and so the muscles are contracted.
