Master gland secretes 9 hormones that control other glands comprised of 3 major lobes: anterior lobe, intermediate lobe (considered part of the anterior lobe) and the posterior lobe. 2 distinct parts anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) posterior pituitary (neurohypophysis) Both parts controlled by neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamus (part of the brain)
