Document Summary

Final exam: same format as test1 and 2, 50 questions. Abraham used the mouse model to study diseases such as artherosclerosis. Genes in common between human and mouse are called homologs. Eg ob gene is found in both mouse and humans, codes for the protein leptin. Not enough leptin = the mouse can"t control his Increase expression of certain proteins when the individual has the disease. It is possible to have more than one biomarkers at the same time. The human genome project has revealed disease genes on all human chromosomes. Figure no need to memorize disease names. Because it helps you to identify different diseased genes on different chromosomes. Testing for chromosome abnormalities: amniocentesis fetus is 16 weeks of age. Create a karyotype: chorionic villus sampling (cvs) fetus is 8-10 weeks old. Remove a small portion of a layer of cells called the chorionic villus that helps form the placenta. There is a greater chance of getting a miscarriage.
