Copyright is the sole and exclusive right of a copyright owner to produce, reproduce, perform, publish, adapt, translate, and distribute/ telecommunicate a work, and to control the circumstances in which others may do any of these things. Copyright owners grant permission to users to allow use of their copyrighted materials. The copyright modernization act 2012 defines these rights and tries to balance the rights of the copyright holder and the user. It has to exist in a tangible form. The law exist to encourage innovation/ new ideas to be formed. Act allows for reproduction and use, within limits, of copyrighted works without permission or payment. Ensures that the record of human creativity" can be examined, discussed and built upon. They deliberately make it vague so that it can be interpreted. All fall under the heading of intellectual property. Unlike copyright, trademarks and patents must be registered to be obtained.
