Document Summary

Mystery plant: nutmeg, red pattern is sold as mace. Compare and contrast between vascular and non-vascular plants: gametophytes are dominant in mosses and other non-vascular plants. Gametophytes are reduced independent (photosynthetic and free-living) in ferns and vascular plants. And are reduced (usually microscopic) dependent on surrounding sporophyte tissue for nutrition: sporophytes in mosses are reduced, while it is dominant in ferns and other seed and seedless vascular plants. In seedless plants gametophytes are retained on the nature of its structure. How does retaining the gametophyte within the sporophyte likely affect embryo fitness: water retention, environmental protection, the sporophyte already provides a way of supplying food and water to the gametophyte. How do seedless and seed plants reflect adaptations to terrestrial habitats: with seeds, the embryo is protected in it, there is storage of nutrient for the embryo. They don"t need water and they wont (cid:271)e affe(cid:272)ted (cid:271)y sunlight either.
