Document Summary

Mechanical processing by teeth which is the beginning of digestion. Pharynx - food goes down the esophagus which leads into the stomach and intestines (pharynx is what is shared with respiratory) Secretion: release of elements that aid digestion. Digestion by chemicals in the stomach (amylase} and down small intestine. Absorption: movement of elements into interstitial space. Taking nutrients body needs from digestion and distributing to the parts of the body where needed. Taking waste out of bolus that isn"t digested and compacting into feces to excrete. There are different membranes - not all disconnected - that have a supportive role for the structures of the digestive system. Digestive histology; (layer of muscles and epithelial membrane) Muscular tube - important for mechanical processing. Bolus- swallowed food that is compacted - starts going down digestive system and with help of muscles, the organs contract and try to contract the size of the bolus.
