Document Summary

Osteoprogenitor cell: can differentiate to osteoblasts, found closer to the spongy bone. Osteoblasts: immature bone cells which are use to form new material. Chondrocytes are found in little sacs secreting uid creating a new matrix called lacunas. The chondrocytes are going to divide into the chondrocytes once surrounded by all the uid into 2, creating more matrix inside the lacuna. Thus creating cartilage from within because the perichondrium was pushed. ** processes don"t happen often in adults, only in early life ** Stiff but exible, reduces friction between bones, no fibres. Ie; between ribs, support larynx: elastic. Provides support, tolerates distortion and return to original shape. Chondrocytes present spread out and lots of elastic bres. Ie; auricle of the external ear, epiglottis: fibrous. Resists compression, prevents bone to bone contact and limits movement. Chondrocytes presents but very spread out, matrix is packed of collagen bres. Ie; pads within knee joints, invertebral discs.
