Document Summary

Where the nutrient absorption of the body actually happens. Blood glucose is high - glucose is received that is being delivered to liver and picked up by tissues. This is then either stored or used as energy. Cells that need the glucose use the energy. Metabolic processes - converting lipid molecules from larger to smaller. When blood glucose is low - glucose cortisol and epinephrine play an important role. Glucocorticoids and growth hormone - gluconeogenesis (making new glucose from non carbohydrate elements) Occurs between meals - before you next meal and after everything you"ve eaten recently has been absorbed. Glucose - high stimulates satiety and inhibits feeding center. When stomach is full, receptors are activated and satiety center is stimulated - allowing you to feel full. Ghrelin - increases appetite by sending signal of being hungry. When ghrelin is low, stomach starts filling up.
