BIO210Y5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Urethral Sphincters, Urinary Bladder, Renal Corpuscle
Document Summary
Renal failure is quite likely (chronic or acute) which cause reduced urine production, disturbed fluid balance, ph. A lot of communities don"t have the accessible health care to take care of kidneys. Descending aorta and inferior vena cava connect to kidneys - connect through hilum. Hilum; medial indentation - blood vessels and nerves. Ureters; muscular tubes from kidneys to urinary bladder. Urinary bladder; hollow muscular organ for temporary urine storage. Urethra; passageway from urinary bladder to exterior (take urine out of body) Rugae; folds that appear at maximum distention. Detrusor muscles; remain relaxed to store urine, contract when urine is eliminated from bladder. When not relaxed, signal to eliminate urine. 2 kinds; in neck of urinary bladder. Females have smaller bladder with more pressure than males. Renal column- part of cortex, fits within medulla space but more like renal cortex (spaces between pyramids) More efficient at reabsorbing water and other ions. Renal corpuscle (glomerular capsule); composed of 3 different things.
