EXPERIMENT – 1 THE PROBLEM OF 9 UNKNOWN SOLUTIONS NAME: STUDENT #: LAB SESSIPRA0117 DATE OF EXPERIM19 September, 2012 DATE OF SUBMISS19 September, 2012 TEACHER ASSISTANT:_______________________ PARTNER’S NAME:_________________________ Purpose: The underlying purpose of the experiment is to identify the identity of given unknown solutions by using only the other solutions as reagents. Experiment Method: 1. Take 10 drops of each solution in a test tube and prepare binary combinations. 2. Once the identity of one or few of the solutions becomes apparent, use that as the main reagent while reacting with the other unknown solutions. 3. Make note of the solution labels and carefully make observations and record them on the data sheet. 4. Compare the data sheet with the pre-lab questions table and find the identity of the unknown solutions based on the color of precipitate, formation of gases, salts from neutralization reactions etc. 5.
