Refers to both the application delivered as services over the internet and the hardware systems software in the datacenters that provide those services. Previously separate technologies sharing resources and evolving to perform similar tasks. Utility computing: server capacity is accessed across the grid as a variably priced shared service virtualization- application are separated from infrastructure/ servers. * software as a service is not the same as cloud computing.
