Denotation: "denotation" tends to be described as the definitional, "literal", "obvious" or. Connotation: the term "connotation" is used to refer to the cultural, historical and "personal" associations of the sign allowing us to expand application of signs creatively. Codes to which you have access are also used in connotation. Orders of signification: denotation- signifier and signified, connotation- uses signifier and signified as its signifier, myth: ex: leafs fan. Something that"s socially understood that may or may not be true. Can function to hide the ideological function of signs and codes. Objectivism: the belief that certain things, esp. moral truths, exist independently of human knowledge or perception of them.
