James gibson: our terrestrial habitat best described by its, medium, gaseous atmosphere, permits locomotion, seeing, hearing, smelling. Locomotion = specific types of motion: substances, solid or semisolid state, different in makeup, e. g. density, do not permit motion through them, surfaces. Laid out in the environment: have different textures and pigments, terrestrial inhabitant of the earth, terrestrial locomotion has evolved as animals adapted from aquatic to terrestrial environments. Locomotion on and raises different problems than that in water, with reduced friction being replaced by the effects of gravity.
