Terms Self- Enhancement - a fundamental human tendency to “propel the ego upward”. This is based on the idea that individuals are trying to promote a positive self-concept and solicit positive feedback from other people. Ex- making your facebook profile or LinkedIn profile look better for the sake of a better impact on others. • Turning a negative into a positive – compensatory positive enhancement Self-Verification – people are motivated to maintain a consistent self concept, preserve the truth about themselves and seek objective feedback from others. People are motivated to self-verify themselves because portraying ones self concept in a stable, self congruent manner helps avoid psychological anarchy, bolster’s a persons confidence in predicting
