Document Summary

Correlational research: relationship exists b/w variables, can"t identify cause & effects. Experimental research small class (changes more than 1 variable to determine effects on others), large class (1. class size influences achievement, 2. They influence each other, 4. they"re measured by a 3rd not measured variable) Lab research: high degree of control over variables, hard to generalize results. Field research findings more easily generalizable, harder to isolate independent variables, often used to replicate lab results. Observations: observe participants: includes students, teachers, parents, administrators, or any combo of those groups. Products: examine documents: includes attendance records, faculty meetings, policy manuals & student portfolios. Conversations: conversations or interviews: with any groups involved in the educational process ascertains personal opinions or perspectives, includes survey/questionnaires. When examining research, think of: is the methodology effective, what future research is needed, what policy/behaviour change do findings support, are the research findings credible.
