Document Summary

Extinction is a natural part of life: however, most extinctions occur from biological interactions, when mass extinction occurs, it is usually related to environmental circumstances. offspring must be timed when food is available. therefore, they have adjusted their laying date. Small populations: species with a small geographic distribution, e. g. only being found in few particular places, makes it vulnerable to extinction, lack genetic diversity, e. g. variability in laying period for the great tit allows some to survive. Speci c habitat requirements: e. g. if they need certain temperatures to survive or certain conditions that aren t available in many places. Slow growth potential: long time to mature, few offspring, etc, e. g. mice have offspring very frequently, elephants do not, those that tend to have offspring more frequently, are more resilient to extinction risk. Extinction is a natural process: extinction is irreversible. that gene pool is lost: humans profoundly affect rates of extinction.
