ENV425H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Rainwater Tank, Impervious Surface, Stormwater
Document Summary
Urban hydrology: water can be transported/absorbed in natural systems and can be taken back into the system through evapotranspiration. Put more vegetation on the property that can handle being saturated during rain events as well as absorb pollutants, rain barrels (more than the ones we see: harder to assess the impact of vegetation on a smaller scale. The money collected is maintaining the underground pipes (system) and to increase green infrastructure on public land: more implicitly telling u to invest in the green area on your property and we will reduce the charge. Low impact development: author nz based. Idea that after a heavy rain event, we will have ponding, and later the water will be absorbed. Rain barrels: maintenance needs to be cleaned regularly so theres no sediment buildup, clean the pipes, don"t want ice freezing in the rain barrels, responsibilities associated with having rain barrels. What adaptation strategies can be adopted: group 1 temp.
