Document Summary

Martin morales thursday, october 31 - tuesday november 5. Volcano - a mountain constructed by the eruption of (cid:373)olte(cid:374) rock fro(cid:373) earth"s i(cid:374)terior. Vesuvius erupted with pyroclastic flows that destroyed the roman city of. Rocks that would otherwise melt are kept solid by high pressure. Volatiles lower the melting temperature of a rock. This raises the temperature in nearby crustal rock, which melts. Magma chamber - an open cavity that contains a large quantity of magma, they inflate and deflate as they fill and empty. Conduits (fissures and vents) - a crater eruption develops from a pipe shaped conduit. Fissures evolve into discrete vents that erupt from craters. Magma may erupt along a linear tear (fissure) which may display a (cid:862)curtai(cid:374) of fire(cid:863). Craters - can be up to 500m across and 200m deep. They form as erupted lava piles up around the vent. Summit eruptions - located within the summit (central) crater.
