Week 11
-Main goal of the article is the relationship between the victory of Constantine and the
sun God
-She uses visual and textual evidence
-articles takes about our perspective of where we take pictures to make them stand
out
-author is saying that the arch is part of a whole
-it shouldn't be just seen on its own
1 Example: Gold coin of Gordian III (238-244 AD) depicting the monument of the
Colosseum
2 Example: Medallion of Constantine, showing
-she made references to other researches to figure out the height and what it looked
like
-another status was referenced that were similar of the height
-she mentioned how it first resembled Nero, when he re dedicated it it represented his
son
-it was changed bunch of times
-we know all this because she uses textual evidence (writings found about the text)
-if that textual evidence falls apart, the entire argument fails apart about the height and
the view
-she is not critical about her work because the primary sources for her paper are
already validated
