FSC239Y5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Cluster Analysis, Homicide, Decision-Making
Document Summary
Means of identifying where a projectile/shell casing was shot from. Red marking = homicide takes place, homicide team investigating them. Use of nearest neighbour hierarchical cluster analysis to establish gang mobility. Gangs are fairly mobile, use this technique to establish mobility. Cluster of locations that are associated with each gang, look at overlapped areas of where gang. A and gang b have been and seen where shootings have happened. Separated the solved and unsolved cases, if there"s a linkage they can establish a relationship. Compare it to ibis linkages to see if they"re connected to identified gang member shootings based on the analysis. Analysts don"t solve crimes, they provide information to the investigators. Trying to establish based on locations of crimes that have taken place in a crime series, determine the likely profile/area where the offender lives or frequents. Crime pattern: set of points on map that display type of pattern.
