Document Summary

Physical hydrology: is the study of the occurrence, movement and physical properties of water on and below the earth"s surface, with the exception of oceanic water. Atmospheric water: the water contained in the air above the land surface. May be liquid water as in rain, or solid water as in snow (ice crystals) Surface water: water at the surface, stored in ponds, lakes, streams or rivers. At some depth below the land surface, pores (minute holes) within the soil, sediment or rock are saturated with water. Water table: dig a large pit, the level to which water from the ground rises in the pit. The zone below the water table is the saturated zone. Below the land surface, but above the water table, pores in the soil may contain both air and water. The water stored there is called soil water. 2. 5% of available water on earth is fresh water.
