Pulse Crops
Definition: Annual leguminous crop yielding from one (1) to twelve (12) seeds of
variable size, shape, and color within a pod (peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas, fava beans...)
Restrictive definition:
o*Crops harvested solely for dry seed
oExcludes: green beans & green peas (vegetable crops), oil extraction (oilseeds -
soyseeds, peanuts, canola), sowing crops (clovers, alfalfa)
Root Crops
Plant roots used as vegetables (carrot, beets, radish & horseradish, turnips & rutabagas)
Basic Facts - Oil Seeds
Lipid materials derived from plants (liquid at room temperature)
oUses: shortening, texture, flavor & flavor base, animal feed & pet food,
industrial uses (soap, candles, cosmetics, fuel, etc.)
