Intermarriage y y europeans were also engaging with the africans y as soon as you see foreigners remaining in a certain area for some time there will be increase of mixed race population y y. Luso-africans called themselves white and portuguese possibly b/c it was advantageous so they could not be part of the slave trade or for the work force. Intermarriages were deliberate and conscious for the purpose of trade.
