Philosopher: a lover of wisdom, acts only after re ection. Sapere aude (dare to know) was believed to be the moto for enlightenment. Began at the beginning of the 18th century when various languages it became popular to call someone enlightened. Someone who did not follow others, but someone who read for themselves, went to coffeehouses, and that they obtained the light of knowledge that could banish the darkness of convention of human minds. He wanted to crush bigotry and intolerance. He believed in a god and attacked organized christianity because he thought it caused brutality. He denied everything that could not be proved by reason and imperial evidence. Believed black people were inferior to white people. Believed that man is born free and that everywhere he is in chains. Moral freedom can only be found through own will. Wanted to maximize the positive effects of manual labour.
