4 main rationales as to why we use colour: represents/imitates reality, to label, to measure, to enlighten or decorate (the least important reason) A heart is not red and blue, that"s representational/symbolic) Tomato reflects & absorbs light, then reflects red. Egg yoke absorbs all colours but yellow, then reflects yellow light. Warmer the colour, the higher on the scale. Cymk: cyan, yellow, magenta, black, used for print media, ink, pigments, subtractive (if you subtract cymk, you are left with white, much smaller spectrum than rgb. Rbg: red, green, blue, used for emissive media, based on light, additive model. R + g + b = white. When you mix all 3, its muddy. Value = brightness (add a white tint to lighten, or black to tone) Heat map: active (warm, saturated, light, passive (cool, less saturated, dark) Can be used to make any colour. Any of mix of the colours/colours in between. Triadic = 3 colours equal distance from each other.
