Document Summary
Create a common language by which form is described both visually and literally. Precision and consistency allow for meaningful comparison and better understanding. Ambiguous words like top", bottom", up", and down" are avoided. Medial = closer to center of body. Lateral = further from center of body. Superior = top inferior = bottom. Sagittal plane = splits the right and left. Transverse plane = splits top and bottom. Coronal plane = splits front and back. Cranial = closer to hear vs caudal = closer to feet. Single source of light is optimal to reveal form and texture. Main light should be 45 degrees up and to the left of the subject. Secondary source/reflected light fills in shadows and adds additional information. There is a highlight, shadow, reflected light, and cast shadow. There are smooth, rough and matte textures.
