Vocabolario
• L'amante = lover
• L'amicizia = friendship
• L'amico/a = friend
• Il compagno/la compagna = peer
• Fare amicizia = become friends
• Il fidanzato/ la fidanzata = fiancé/e
• Il nemico = nemesis
• Il ragazzo/la ragazza = boy/girl
• La relazione (amorosa) = love affair
• Rompere un'amicia = break off a friendship
• Il bacio = kiss
• La bugia = lie
• Il negozo = store
• La valigia = suitcase
Feminine/ Masculine endings
1. Masculine General: o/i
2. Feminine General: a/e or a/essa
3. Ambiguous gender: e/i
4. Feminine with -ca or -ga end in -che or -ghe in plural
5. Masculine with -ci end in -chi in the plural
6. Masculine ending with -go are changed to -ghi unless it ends in -logo then it is changed to –logi
7. Masculine ending with -ci are changed to -gi in the plural
8. Feminine nouns that end in -cia or -gia are changed to -ce or -ge if the -i is unstressed and remain -
cie or -gie if it is stressed
9. Male nouns that end in -io follow the same pattern as above
10. Some words have the same singular forms but different plural forms (eg. collega/i colleghi/ le
colleghe
Polite vs Familiar
• Esso (m) and essa(f) are rarely used unless they are required for emphasis or clarity and after
prepositions and words like anche, pure, etc.
• Essi and esse are the plural
• Correspond to it, they/them
• Formal: tu come stai?
• Informal: Lei come sta?
