If you were economically developed, then you are more likely to be democratic. They talk about how high levels of education, personal income and middle class are necessary/important to sustain democracy. Such people will demand democracy, however if its le contraire, like there is a lot of poor people, we won"t see the demand of democracy coming. Supports the pessimistic view that democracy would not spread. Theory that has more to do with the culture than the economic development. Reason of the spread of democracy in the west is given to the judeo-christian and culture traditions. And non-western cultures don"t have that spread of democracy (check slides) Competitive (more than 1 party that are competing) and free elections (people shouldn"t be charged to vote)
