POL200Y5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Form Of The Good, The Souls, Timocracy
Document Summary
Between the individual and the re, there is a high wall. These shadows are reality to them since it is the only thing they see. When we are forced to see the light, we will see reality much more clearly but it requires us to turn away from the shadows: the individuals (philosophers) take this journey as an educational journey. They don"t return to the cave: returning back into the cave, it"s an intellectual journey, not a physical journey. Mathematics works with numbers and would train the individuals to think aside from the abstract world. Since mathematics is a subject that gears away from the typical knowledge, this will exercise the mind of the individuals to look away from what we: at 30, they"re taught dialectics; like cross-examination. This dialect will teach them to remove themselves from previous beliefs: at 35, they would get on-the-job training for 15 years.
