-Revolution: internally lit conflicts, new order, new system !
-Civil War is a process- they can coexist-!
3 factors that can cause state failure !
1. Economic factors: GDP (income) and size of population- contested, resources:
insurgency, ability to loot or not loot- governments exploit resources: no taxation no
representation- don’t represent them if you don’t tax them resource: arbitrary rule
and repression !
2. Ethnicity: ELF: scoring of states based on how many ethnic groups are in a state-
more ethnic groups higher chances of a civil war - balance of power between
groups min vs. Maj - domestic and international interacting !
- minorities rule through fear and leads to repression!
3. Democratization: underdevelopment- three requisites of democracy if you don’t
have them then it could lead to state failure !
- Organizations claim to represent ethnic groups and their interests
