In the 700s ce, the vikings had a war, which then split those tribes. 1066: war came again and french became the language that the people would speak. Old english adapted and grew (words such as damage, parliament, council , etc appeared) Old english came after the romans were defeated. Some words that were borrowed from the old norse language, include: freckle, skin, root, leg and foot. Vikings invaded and the british isles got split in half. One side were the danes (old norse) and the other, the anglo-saxons. For three centuries, french was the language of the british royalty, as the french invaded the british and the language normans is french.
