Document Summary

Socrates does not think that he is guilty of the crimes that he is being executed for. Socrates thinks that he was doing a favour to the youth by making them examine their lives. He does not consider his death a misfortune. Important to socrates to not only live, but to live well. Says that socrates should run away from his execution. If socrates turns down the offers to run away, everyone will think that crito values money more than his friends. You can bribe the guards for socrates to escape. The people won"t believe that socrates didn"t want to escape execution. But rather that he couldn"t escape because his friends were cheap and didn"t want to spend money to bribe the guards. By not running away, socrates would be doing what his enemies would want. He"d be betraying his sons since he"d not be able to participate in their education.
