Pakistan is becoming a failed state, they have a powerful army that controls the politics more than the civilian government. It has been corrupt and yielded to the army. Intelligence (isi) functions as a state within a state & is not under civilian control. Lack of adequate social services (health care, literacy, education system) Elite refused to pay taxes & are extremely corrupt. When pakistan is supportive of the taliban it makes the job of the afghan country more difficult. Political parties are run as family dynasties, rather than democratic institutions. Army & intelligence have used islamic extremists to pursue foreign policy agendas in india & Osama bin laden was hiding in pakistan. Pakistani taliban have turned against the state & waged war with it, controlling some of the northwest. Pakistani military sees india as a much greater threat than the taliban.
