Document Summary

Concerned with the notion of abstract rights. Their abstract perfection is their practical defect. Our natural habitat is society it is not a so called state of nature . State of nature does not make sense to burke. It is easier to deal with the abstract but it is harder to put into practice. Burke offers a critique of the french revolutions foundational principle. The french revolution is different because it is based on the principles of the modern world. The problem with the assembly is that there is no one with political experience. The assembly is just an aggregate of different individual wills. Representation is open to others with merit. The french no longer respect rank and merit because we are all equal . A natural aristocracy has virtue and wisdom in abundance. A true aristocrat is aware of his responsibilities. Aristocratic wealth allows for an independance to see the bigger picture.
