Document Summary
We only study behavior we can measure. We can only study it quantitively with numbers. A way of proving causation by isolating some variables and keeping some constant. Proving that x" causes y" while keeping z" constant. Measurement of behavior: dependent variable (test performance) Staying the same: control variables (setting, conditions, etc. ) Dependent variable: what"s the behavior being measured, what are its units, how it"s measured. If x" is present, there will be a behavior. If x" is not there, there"s no behavior. If the result is different both times, it made a change. Change one thing and see what happens. Hypothesis: alcohol (independent; what we"re changing) affects behavior (dependent; measurement of behavior). Keep environment, clothes, food, everything else same. Only change x" the amount of alcohol given. Progressive error and random error that must be controlled. As you progress through the task, you get better at it because you"re practicing, but you also get tired as a result.
