Developmental psychology: the focus of developmental psychology is on how humans develop and change over time. Change can occur across the life span of the person: cradle to grave developmental psychology. Core developmental issues: delineate the interacting forces of nature and nurture. Maturation: refers to biologically determined changes that follow an orderly sequence: determine the importance of early experiences. The (cid:374)otio(cid:374) of (cid:862)critical periods(cid:863: assess whether change is continuous or in qualitative stages. Some say there are sensitive periods rather than critical periods, si(cid:374)ce i(cid:374)di(cid:448)iduals ca(cid:374) (cid:373)ake (cid:862)so(cid:373)e gai(cid:374)s(cid:863) despite extreme circumstances such as isolation. The case of genie: a girl who was isolated until the age of 13. Although genie made some gains in language, her syntax never approached normal levels.
