Document Summary

Psy100 feb 2, 2016 social psychology part 1. Attributions are what we attribute the cause to other"s behaviours. Can be internal (attributing to their personality and themselves) or external (to situational factors or forces) You did well on the test, therefore you assume you"re smart. Also, the person beside you failed, and so you assume that they"re dumb) Fundamental attribution error when we attribute things to others, we usually attribute it to their internal; their personality. Defensive attribution (aka victim blaming) ex when a sexually assaulted girl is blamed for her situation. To keep ourselves psychologically safe; to convince ourselves that it wouldn"t happen to us; to make ourselves feel safer. It"s adaptive and functional; allows us to try new things that we would probably fail at. Individualism (focus on importance of the individual; look out for number one) and collectivism (more importance emphasis on the importance of the group; it"s not all about you, it"s about your group)
