Document Summary

Practice lab test question: how do we measure interference in the stroop test, reaction time when reading incongruent words (colour doesn"t match word) vs with congruent words (ink matches word, difference between incongruent and congruent. Cognitive psychology: compares mental processes to something you know, ex: compares human mind to computers. Computer metaphor of the mind: a computer, stores info, codes info, uses info, produces an output, mind is like a computer. Information processing: cognitive psychology sees individual as a processor of information, in much the same way that a computer takes in information and follows a program to produce output. Lexical decision task: is this a word: say word (stimulus, hits auditory processing encoding, compare to stored info, decide yes or no, respond, say yes or no. Measuring cognitive responses: the sum of all the times for the 4 processing stage is the total reaction time, when stimulus given to when response is given.
